Summer is generally about pastel hues, dewy skin, and soft makeup. But that is so last season. This summer look for intense, saturated hues to adorn your face. Time to put a palette of fresh, and perky colours in your makeup bag. Load up on gold flecked pinks, orange, bright shades of blue and green, strawberry and plum hues.
Pink eyes and cheeks
Well pink is the usual shade for spring, but don’t dig out your two season’s old matte pink shades, for this time the pink has to be iridescent with flecks of gold that gives you glow. This time you can wear the colour both on your cheeks and your lids. To keep your looking very modern try this trick: first line your upper and lower lashline with a black liner, apply a very thin line, and then smudge in some creamy gold pink shadow over you lid till the crease. Finally apply two coats of volumising mascara to open up the eyes. Complement this with bright pink or orange lips.
Blue and green eyes
The popular trend of colour blocking in fashion is now a look for the eyes this season. So get your green, blue and aqua eye liners out and get drawing. To get the look bright ad right make sure you are not plagued by dark circles or puffy eyes. For the bold, you can try the look with three hues, but those who want to try out the look first, play with two shades. To get the basic look you can start by applying a neutral eye shadow all over your lid. Then take a jewel toned green liner and line the upper lash line close to the lashes, then take an aqua blue liner and draw another line on top of the green one. Blend lightly to smudge the line to give a seamless effect. For a funkier touch use a blue or a light green liner to draw on your lower lash line. For those who feel this is OTT, pick a blue and silver or green and gold combo and follow the routine. The other popular variation seen on the catwalk was to blend aqua and green eye shadows ad applying till the crease, blending, smudging, and fadng as you go upwards and outwards towards the outer corner of your eyes. Go with a single coat of lash lengthening mascara. Go with earthy pink or coral glossy lips.
The traditional summer pink and coral are off colour this season. Think juicy fruits – especially strawberry and grapefruit. Notch up your summer sexiness with a blend of pink and coral to get this new shade of lipper. To get the right shade you will need to mix two colours, a bubblegum pink lipstick with a deep coral one. Choose creamy texture for both. Start by applying a little foundation on your lips then put the blended shade to cover your lips – apply a little extra on the centre of your pout. Then wipe out extra with a tissue for a stained effect. You can also get the effect by first applying a rose pink lipstick or lip pencil all over your lips (put more colour the centre), followed by a coral gloss. Finally blot out extra gloss to get the stained look. Avoid shimmery or sparkly lipsticks or glosses – they will simply spell tacky with a capital T. Keep the rest of your face fresh with a light dusting of sheer coral eyeshadow and blush.
Copper and gold wings
We India girls can never get tired of winged liners and metallic shades. So blend your fetish for the two trends to get a new eye look. Instead of black cat’s eye, try deep copper, bronze or old gold shades to draw the upward flick. Since the colours have an amazing impact on our skin tone, so go for a slightly thick line over your lid and extend the line beyond the outer corner and upwards nearly touching your brow bone. This works wonderfully for an afternoon lunch party. For the evening soiree, up the intensity of your eye makeup by drawing a thin black line on the upper lash line, and smudge some bronze or shimmery brown shadow on your lower lash line.
Orange and red lips
A pop of colour on your lips is de rigeur for summer. The brighter the better - deep orange and intense red with a hint of brown work best for us Indian girls. Stick to creamy matter formulas that glide on easily and settle with a deep pigment without making the lips look dry. To wear the look right, apply the colour a little inside your natural lip line, then use a creamy lip pencil in the same shade as your lipstick to draw your mouth – don’t make the line too stark and keep to your natural lip line. Blend the lipstick and the liner for a seamless look. Top off with brown eye liner and a dash of bronzer on your cheekbones.
Plum in cream and gloss
Plum is for winter you say! Not if the shade is nearly transparent and glossy. To keep it summer trendy avoid rich, or very dark opaque version of burgundy. Unlike in winter when plum goes on the lips and eyes mostly, in summer you can experiment with the shade on your cheeks as well. Take a cream or mousse blush in plum or wine hue and use your fingers to rub some on the apple of your cheeks n circular motion, blend well to get a hint of colour. Apply a sheer burgundy gloss with a hint of red to your lips. Finish the look by dusting some gold highlighter on your cheek bones, and eye lids, and draw your cupids bow over your lip with soft gold pencil.
Summer makeup can never be without the nude face look. But this time it is not monochrome effect in beige. The natural look interpretation is with soft colours and matte skin. A mousse foundation formula works best for this look. Pick soft brown for the eyes and nude pink for lips and cheeks. Use a pencil eye shadow and draw a thick line over your top lid, smudge with your finger till the crease. Draw a thin brown line on your lower lash line. Put on a coat of brown or transparent mascara. Take an earthy pink and apply on your cheekbones. Mix together cream-textured rosy pink and earthy pink lipsticks and use a brush to apply. Smudge lightly with your finger to soften the edges. Finish off the look by lightly dusting some powder in your natural skin tone over the whole face.
